... you get an OXO Mandoline for Valentines Day. It's a beautiful, beautiful thing. And I will NOT be tempted to NOT use the guard as the last time I did that, I ended up in the Emergency Room.
Last night I sliced a cucumber. Simple, I know, but what perfection! Every slice exactly the same as it's sibling slice! No thin on the top, thick on the bottom slices! Uniformity, sameness, a harmony of precision! Ah, the possibilities. Not that I'm known for needing everything I slice, dice and mince to be the same size. No. Not at all. Ahem. Imagine: identical strips of julienned carrots. I leave you to ponder that image.

I don't think I can put into words how envious I am over your mandolin. I mean, I wouldn't use it ALL the time, it would sit in a cabinet MOST of the time...but then, when I did want to use it, I could just reach in to the way back (away from curious babies and their fingers), take it out, and make some magic. [insert deep, pathetic sigh here]

Holy smokes, the emergency room??? Ouch!!
When I was an innocent child, I used to think that chefs had the magical touch to slice and dice cucumbers and carrots into that uniform and perfect thickness that maintain crunchiness while being thin enough to be tender. I was really in awe of how they did it... You too could impress a child with your new tool!!

I asked for and received an Oxo mandoline for Christmas (I actually received two). I LOVE it!! I made my own french fries, just for kicks. Glad to see someone gets as excited as I do about a piece of plastic and metal. :)

Hi Molly - I got here after reading the tasty tart article on Becks & Posh... I'm thinking about getting a mandoline, and I promise I'll use the guard!
